Be a Coach

So, you want to be a volunteer coach?  Fantastic!  YOU CAN DO IT!!!  Being a DLS sports program coach can be one of the most rewarding things you do for yourself and a child. Whether you just want to coach the younger kids (ages 5 and 6) for T-Ball or Soccer or if you want to be a certified coach and coach kids 7 years old and up in any sport we offer – WE NEED YOU!

Coaching requires a little of your time, a little patience, the love of kids and the sport!

Requirements for Coaching:
  • Yearly background checks: These background checks are done by the DLS for the protection of our kids- there is no cost to you. There is a form at our office that you will be required to fill out each year.
  • ASEP Certification: Required if you are coaching any sport for kids ages 7 and up. Being a certified coach means that you are eligible to coach an ALL STAR team. DLS usually provides two free classes a year – one in the Spring and one in the Fall. Attending this class will prepare you for the certification test that is given during the course of the meeting. Once you pass the test you are certified to coach any sport with the DLS. If you miss one of our classes you can take the course online. Please follow the instructions for online coaching certification.

I think the best part of being a DLS coach is when a kid you coached 5 years ago comes up to you, hugs you and tells you how much fun they had being on your team. That's what it's all about!
