Strut like a chicken while participating in the chicken crowing contest at the Wild Chicken Festival on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Choose between your bicycle or your running shoes Saturday, April 12, 2025. The Wild Chicken 100 is a bicycle gravel ride event that begins at 9am from the historic AB&A Railroad Depot. There will be multiple bike route options including a paved option; however, the main focuses are the gravel/dirt/clay road options. Early on the morning of May 10, 1865, Confederate President Jefferson Davis was captured at his camp outside Irwinville. Davis had spent the evening in Abbeville, a distance of almost exactly 26.2 miles from where he was captured. To commemorate this historic event, the communities along the route host the Annual Chasing Jefferson Davis Marathon. The marathon is USATF Certified (GA15012WC) and multiple runners have used it as a Boston Marathon Qualifier. Enjoy the picturesque downtown, scenic back roads and bucolic landscape. Fitzgerald is Small Town U.S.A. at its best! Wild Chickens shouldn’t keep you away! For more information, call (229) 426-5033. |
