Sanitation
The Fitzgerald Sanitation Department handles both residential and commercial garbage collection. Currently we are serving approximately 470 commercial customers and 4,300+ residential customers. We also provide limb and leaf service. Any garbage, refuse or other waste materials left for collection not deposited in waste container shall be subject to a special collection fee. More information is available in Chapter 12 of the Code of Ordinances, which pertains to garbage, trash, and weeds.
Household garbage collection
Household Garbage CollectionThe City of Fitzgerald's Department of Public Works furnishes residential waste containers for weekly garbage collection for residents of the City of Fitzgerald.
|
- containers need to be placed with the pick up bar facing towards the street or alley way and the handles facing towards the houses. This will allow the garbage truck to empty your can without the lid blocking garbage from coming out. Containers need to be placed at least a few feet away from fences and out buildings.
- container must be in place by 6:30am on collection day
- no other waste containers may be used
- only household garbage should be placed in the containers - no appliances, vacuum cleaners, unbroke down boxes, construction debris, dirt, bricks, blocks, leaves, etc.
If you have an issue that requires the assistance of Public Works, please submit a work order by calling the office during business hours or complete the online work order.
COUNTY RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE PICK UP - If you are located near the city limits or on an existing garbage route, you have the option of receiving residential garbage pick-up. Please visit our office or complete this agreement and we will get back with you to let you know if you qualify for service.
If you move to the county and no longer want garbage pick-up, please check your first utility bill to confirm you are not being charged for that service. If so, please call us and we will remove the charge from your bill.
Yard debris collection
Yard Debris Collection
Normal yard waste includes limbs, leaves, grass and pine straw. It will need to be piled up in one pile in a location where it can be reached with a limb truck without entering onto or damaging private property.
Please do not pile yard waste on top of sewer clean-outs, under electrical lines, guide wires, low hanging tree limbs or to close to fence/out buildings.
Yard waste cannot be mixed with other debris such as paper, garbage, bulk items, lumber, sheds, swing sets, etc.
Contractors are responsible for removing their own waste to the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Landfill.
