Grand Balcony Club
The Grand Balcony Club was formed by forward thinking leaders in our community who saw the need for maintaining the operation of the Grand Theatre in Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County, and the challenges of operating an historic facility with previously outdated technical equipment. The Theatre has become an important part of our community and provided needed space for business meetings as well as educational and entertainment opportunities to support other local entities including our schools, government, social groups, private organizations, and individuals. The Grand Balcony Club is known for thinking outside the box and even outside the walls of the theatre, to expand programming, facility use and availability, and to continue considering the future needs of our community. Discussions are ongoing about the future use and how we can make the facility even more accessible and flexible for additional programming.
Recent projects aside of the recent technology upgrades include the auditorium ADA compliance project in 2015 - 2016. We have been sprucing up the facility with fresh paint in appropriate historic colors and displaying appropriate art and photos in mini-galleries around the building. New heating in the auditorium has been installed. Music on Main Street has been a great success with the installation of outdoor speakers on the roof of the Grand to provide music downtown and we are looking at ways to be able to expand this program further.
Every action that is taken by the club is discussed openly and accepted by a majority vote of the membership. Projects include replacement of part of the theatre curtains, purchase of smaller projection system, theatre seating upgrades, upgrades to the Marquee Room, with more projects scheduled in the future.
There are many perks to joining the club including regularly scheduled private events with meals, season free passes for members to all first run movies on the schedule at the Grand, and the privilege of sitting in a balcony VIP seat at every Grand Theatre or Arts Council event you attend.
