Arts & Culture
Looking for something to do? You are in the right place! Allow us to showcase what we love about Fitzgerald, GA. A leisurely stroll through our downtown Arts & History District will keep you occupied for hours. Immerse yourself in the history of the unusual founding of Fitzgerald at the Blue & Gray Museum situated inside the beautifully restored A, B & A Railroad Depot. The Depot houses the Fitzgerald Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, a lovely gift shop featuring local products, an extensive railroad exhibit, The Myrtle Brown Harper Genealogy section and an exhibit featuring Fitzgerald’s history following the founding story. Within sight of the Depot, you can peruse the ever changing art exhibits on display at the Carnegie Center or sign up for one of the classes available through the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill Arts Council that operates the facility. The Studio is an artist-in-residence program made possible by a partnership between the local arts council and the TAC department. You might just catch an artist at work at the Carnegie Center or the visual arts studio space that is housed in “the studio” building just across the Carnegie Courtyard. Stroll through the Historic Downtown in search of our many murals. They are tucked in alleyways and unexpected places. Pose for a selfie and don’t forget to share our hashtag #fitzart. On our beautiful brick Main Street, you will find the Grand Theatre, an Art Deco theater that is a state of the art facility in a beautiful historic building. Take in a first run movie, a live performance, or a concert.
The Tourism, Arts & Culture (TAC) Department was developed to cultivate a healthy and vibrant community that is rich in civic participation, cultural development and supports economic prosperity. As a partner with our local nonprofit organizations, the TAC Department is the hub of the wheel that helps support programs and services that preserve cultural heritage and create increased access to high quality arts experiences. The Tourism, Arts & Culture Department is not only developed to increase the number of people participating in artistic and cultural activities in our community, but to support job creation, support education in the arts and enhance our community identity. |
