Though not affiliated with the City of Fitzgerald, a number of local businesses & organizations offer summer camps and activities. Find more information about those on the calendar of events. Back to the Basics - The Back to the Basics is geared for a more in-depth learning experience about various forms of art. This year we are focusing on music, art making, storytelling, theatre & FUN! SUMMER ARTS CAMP - This week-long Summer Art Camp allows about 100 children the opportunity to learn about dance, music, photography, local history, literature, theater, arts & crafts. They will participate in a live performance in front of an anticipated audience of more than 300 people & interact with artists and to create works of art and create costumes and props that will be used during the performance. Campers ages 7-14 yrs. old attend Monday-Friday from 1pm – 5pm. Campers ages 4-6 yrs. old attend Tuesday-Friday from 1PM – 5PM. JULY ARTS MINI-CAMP - The July Art Camp is geared for a more in-depth learning experience about various forms of art. This year we are focusing on music, painting, art history in relation to the painting project and quilting. At the end of the 3 day class the students will have completed a painting to bring home, learned a bit of art history, completed a quilt square by using hand sewing techniques and the sewing machine and composed their own bit of music. The camp will also feature game times and special guest artists. July 11-14; ages 7-14; 9am-12pm; registration $85. LET'S MAKE A MOVIE CAMP - Working in teams, campers will create story boards for their film (live or stop motion), direct, shoot, edit and produce their film through the course of the camp. Films will be screened at the end of camp on the Grand Theatre’s Big Screen on Saturday. Registration $85 (includes t-shirt and DVD). FITZGERALD WRESTLING CLUB YOUTH CAMP - Instruction for all levels. Techniques, drills, motivational talks, games, and live wrestling. High school wrestlers will assist each group. June 19-21, ages 4-12, 9-11:30am at the wrestling gym at the Armory, $65 (includes daily snack and t-shirt), registration on-site at 8:30am on June 19. MAXFIT AT THE REFINERY SUMMER CAMP - MaxFit at The Refinery Summer Camp emphasizes physical fitness through games and functional workouts. Campers ages 6-14 will work on developing athleticism and correct movement patterns by associating fitness with fun! CHALLENGER SPORTS BRITISH SOCCER CAMP - The CHALLENGER SPORTS BRITISH SOCCER CAMP combines the latest and greatest foot-skills, feints, moves, juggling, core techniques and game tactics, with a variety of cultural and educational experiences for the players. The highlight of the week is the camp World Cup. Coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about history, customs and traditions of other countries. Challenger also weaves lessons on Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Leadership and Sportsmanship into the campers daily routine.
