Fitzgerald - Ben Hill County Library

With a rich collection of local and genealogy materials,  unique locally drawn murals in the children’s room, fast wired and wireless Internet access, a large meeting room,  and of course, up to date books, the library is a vital participant in the economic growth and development of Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County.

From the library’s first home in a 1915 Carnegie building to the move in 1983
to the current location, library services have been an integral part of this community.

With a collection of nearly 60,000 items and recent checkouts of over 6,000 items per month, the community has shown overwhelming support for the library and its services. As a member of PINES, a nearly state-wide library system, Fitzgerald library users can borrow from any participating library, place requests and renew items online. The library also offers:

  • Access to GALILEO – a tremendous collection of online databases provided to all public libraries in Georgia.
  • Free wireless and wired Internet plus age-appropriate children’s computers with educational games.
  • The nationally recognized Alvin G. and Lydia Todd Brown Symposium, which has brought such
famous writers as Erskine Caldwell, Lillian Hoban, and Stuart Woods to Fitzgerald.
  • A large meeting/conference room equipped with restroom facilities.
  • Vacation Reading Program for children of all ages and Accelerated Reading testing in cooperation
    with area schools.
  • Seminars and workshops on topics from tax preparation and genealogy to flower arranging and cooking.
  • The Georgia Room which has an extensive genealogy and local history collection.
  •  Photocopying, faxing and notary services.
