Public School System
The Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County School System prides itself on its state-of-the-art
buildings and classrooms and the exceptional instruction it provides
to its students. The county's 3,700+ students receive a comprehensive
education in grades P-12, with emphasis on reading/literacy in the primary
and elementary grades. The K-5 schools are scheduled on a parallel block
format, which means that each student remains with their homeroom teacher
for math and language arts and then joins a larger group for classes
like social studies. The middle school operates on a true middle school
plan. Students are placed in one of three teams, and each team has four
teachers who teach the academic subjects. For the rest of their classes,
students may choose from a wide variety of exploratory courses. Fitzgerald
High School is a comprehensive high school that stresses a strong academic
foundation. It also has an array of vocational courses for which students
may receive credit at East Central Technical College and several colleges
in our area. The Ben Hill County Schools strive to meet the needs of
the individual and to ensure the best education possible for all of
our students.
