A far cry
from the original library which served the city since 1915, this new complex
holds 70,000 books, records, and videos. Almost 100,000 checkouts are
registered annually by the library's 11,000 patrons. The library, now
located on Main Street, has a vast circular gallery for art exhibits;
beautiful shelving, study tables, and desks; brightly-colored children's
reading and activity rooms; and new computers and word processors.
The library also is home to:
- a dialog computer database informational service
- the nationally recognized Alvin G. and Lydia Todd Brown Symposium,
which has brought such famous writers as Erskine Caldwell, Lillian Hoba,
and Stuart Wood to Fitzgerald
- a large meeting/conference room equipped with kitchen and restroom
facilities
- the Summer Reading Program for school children
- seminars and workshops on topics from tax preparation and genealogy
to flower arranging and cooking
- The Georgia Room--a complete genealogy library filled with journals,
diaries, newspaper articles, old records, and photographs dating back
to the founding
of the Colony City in 1896
